What To Do When You Don’t Know What’s Next. When Strategies Don't Work. Looking Beyond the Strategy to Understand the Student.

Webinar Description

Every SNA/Teacher has experienced it. You try the visual schedule. You offer a movement break. You use a first-then board. You reduce language. You provide sensory supports ... and nothing changes.

Does that mean the strategy doesn't work?

Not necessarily.

Very often it isn't the strategy that has failed - it is the conditions surrounding it.

In this practical webinar, we will explore the many reasons why supportive strategies appear ineffective and learn how to become reflective problem-solvers instead of constantly searching for the next intervention. Using current understanding of behaviour, regulation, implementation science and inclusive practice, participants will learn how to evaluate strategies systematically before abandoning them.

Rather than asking, "What else can I try?" we'll learn to ask, "What is this strategy telling me about the student?" This webinar provides a practical decision-making framework that SNAs can immediately apply in classrooms. You will learn how to use “The Strategy Isn’t Working” Decision Tree.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this webinar participants will be able to:

  1. Evaluate why a strategy may appear unsuccessful before replacing it with another intervention.
  2. Identify the key conditions that influence whether a strategy is likely to succeed, including timing, consistency, communication, relationships and environmental factors.
  3. Use reflective questioning to problem-solve alongside teachers rather than relying on trial and error.
  4. Develop a personalised "Strategy Reflection Framework" to guide future decision-making and improve support for students.
