The Fundamental Fundamentals
This course will cover the 8 week self-assessment PE fundamental activities for all.
It is suitable for all classes, particularly 2nd class up.
It will covers the following -
- Teacher-led sessions in week 1 and 2 where children grade themselves on all the fundamentals.
- Activities then set up for weeks 3-6 & children chose which ones to work on.
- In week 7 & 8 they self-assess again & note improvements.
Learning outcomes will be -
Aim 1 from primary PE curriculum = To promote enjoyment of, and positive attitudes towards, physical
activity and its contribution to lifelong health-related fitness, thus preparing the child for the active and purposeful use of leisure time.
Aim 2 from primary PE curriculum = To help in the acquisition of an appropriate range of movement skills in a variety of contexts.
Objective 1 from PE curriculum = To develop qualities of self-esteem, self-awareness, confidence, initiative and leadership through movement.
Objective 2 from PE curriculum = To gather, record and interpret information on achievement in movement activities.
Facilitator - Shane O'Neill
Shane is a 6th class teacher in Limerick with 13 years teaching experience, in a variety of mainstream settings. He is very passionate about PE & the Fundamentals in particular. He always spends September & October working on the PE fundamentals with his class, regardless of the age group!
