Course Details: 2 x 1 hour sessions online - 17th & 24th January 2024

In recent times, an increasing number of schools have begun introducing a modern foreign language to their school. This can be a wonderful, engaging and thoroughly beneficial experience for pupils and teachers alike.
The objective of this course is to equip teachers with a broad variety of effective, practical, active-learning strategies for introducing and teaching a Modern Foreign Language in Primary School, with a particular emphasis on French.

Learning Outcomes: 

  • To equip teachers with a broad variety of effective, practical, active-learning strategies for introducing and teaching a Modern Foreign Language in Primary School, with a particular emphasis on French.
  • To enable teachers to source, develop and use a variety of resources suitable for the modern language classroom.
  • To give teachers confidence in teaching a modern language in primary school.

Presenter

Dr. Brendan Duignan has over 20 years’ experience working in primary education. He has taught at primary level in England, France, Dublin and Mayo, and was Regional Advisor with the Modern Languages in Primary Schools Initiative. Additionally, Brendan has presented at a variety of national and international conferences, has been guest lecturer in St. Patrick’s College, Drumcondra, has had an Associate Fellowship with the University of Lincoln and is currently Special Education Teacher in Co. Mayo and co-designer of and guest lecturer on the new Primary Modern Languages elective module in Maynooth University.
